Before pruning After pruning
Before pruning there were many upright stems competing with the leader. The tree was growing like a bush. All stems, except the leader, that were growing upright were reduced in length by making heading cuts. Heading cuts were necessary because there were no lateral branches to cut back to. Several of the largest diameter branches were removed back to the trunk.
